Kid's Academy

Kids Academy

Kid's AcademyThe Pemi Valley Kid’s Academy is a free three-day learning program held Thursday through Saturday at the PVBF for kids ages 8 to 17 years old.

This year, the Academy will be divided into 2 groups, by age. The younger group can consist of just singers but pickers as well. The older group is for kids who know their instruments and are up for a little challenge.

The groups grand finale is a performance on the main stage on Saturday evening.

Tunes for the weekend:
Younger Group: Sugar Hill, Dueling Banjos/Fiddles/etc, Mama Don’t Allow
Older Group: Wagon Wheel, Walkin’ After Midnight and a tribute to Doug Downey.

Music (written and recorded) will be provided when you register for the camp. Register early!!

A limited number of Guitars, Banjo's and Fiddle's are available.
It is suggested that you bring your own instrument if you have one.

For Kids and lead by Kids. This year, Audrey and Shelby Smith assisted in picking out the tunes and will be leading the group in their performance. Audrey plays Fiddle and Shelby plays fiddle, banjo and dobro. Audrey & Shelby are experienced players who play in orchestras, in their band Tangled Strings, the NH Fiddle Ensemble, at square dances and with their family group, as well as busking in Portsmouth & Dover, NH. The Pemi Valley Kid’s Academy is the only festival academy with Kid Leaders.

Experienced music teacher, Ellen Carlson, will provide the adult guidance. Ellen has been teaching at Kid's Academy's at different festivals for more than 10 years. She teaches at Grey Fox and Joe Val and has also taught at Strawberry Park.

Currently, Ellen co-produces the Fiddleheads Acoustic Music Camp and leads the New Hampshire Fiddle Ensemble (a ensemble focused on learning and performing fiddle music of various styles in the traditional way), plays with High Range and other groups, and has taken her Masters of Education from the classroom to private fiddle lessons and school programs that bring fiddling and music from the 1800's into schools. She will be joined by other top-notch musicians.
